As a result of the success and concern for self-maintenance, The Diabetic Kitchen will expand soon to two of our local high schools. Plans are in place to set up Kitchens at New Iberia High School and Westgate High School.
We have been approached by several officials who are concerned about the number of youth/students who are suffering with diabetes and are not properly caring for themselves, as a result “The Diabetic Kitchen,” have made a commitment to take-on childhood diabetes and address the issues associated with it. We’ll work with the students by providing educational materials, host discussions, provide sound medical advice from our medical personnel, and utilizing our “Match” program. With the “Match” program well team a youth with one of our members who have a proven track record of self-management of diabetes, at least ten years or more.
Our goal will be to aid the youth in understanding that diabetes can be controlled. We want to give them a resource to draw needed information from, and we want to establish the fact with the youth that there’s always someone around that they can turn to for aid, if they only ask for help.
More on the school project in the near future…
